| Developing relationship even after school |
|
There are many youth development activities in school buildings during non-school hours. After school hours services are often provided through partnerships between schools, a community-based organization and maybe even university too. There has been a lot of research into sharing facilities - especially considering schools sit idle for 18 hours a day. There are strategies that are helping families improve students in several aspects. These aspects involve positive development, academic performance, increasing parent’s engagement in their children’s education and facilitating communication between families, schools and programs concerning students learning and development in and out of the classroom. Many of these do not involve parent presence in the program. This is important as the rationale for many of the programs. More importantly they are important to provide safe and enriching experiences for children while their parents are at work and cannot provide supervision on them. Many evaluations note that programs provide benefits to the families stemming from the provision of convenient childcare that allow them to better balance work and family life equally. Mentoring is a structured and trusting relationship that is built to bring young people together with caring adults who offer guidance, support and encouragement aimed at building the confidence and character of the child. Some focus on personal mentoring while others emphasize professional mentoring too. Though programs vary in content and structure, all the programs emphasize consistency in relationship-building as well. The after school activities, which are managed by the professional people, promotes positive self-perception and visions of high achievement among youth. These motivational seminars emphasize development in positive racial and cultural self-imaging as well as academic value for self-confidence and motivation and strategic planning for educational and career goals too. There are many many benefits of after school activity centres using school facilities. The community should gain from a building full of wonderful equipment and resources. |
